Lavender indeed boasts a rich history, intertwined with various cultures and practices. Its use as a perfume and incense by the ancient Egyptians marks the beginning of its long-standing value. The herb's journey through time saw it being embraced by Persia, Greece, and Rome, where it was cherished not only for its pleasant aroma but also for its purported medicinal and aphrodisiac properties. The allure of lavender even reached the legendary Cleopatra, who is said to have utilized its fragrance in her strategies of seduction. Remarkably, the enduring scent of lavender was noted among the artifacts in Tutankhamun's tomb, a testament to its lasting fragrance and the ancient civilization's skill in preservation.
Lavender originated in the Greek Hyeres Islands and was brought to France, Spain, Italy, and England by the Arabians around 600 BC. The use of Lavender is traced so far back that the Bible references it in the gospel of Luke, the gospel of John, and the Song of Solomon. The scriptures refers to the plant as “spikenard,” its original name. One of the common passages mentions Lavender in the book of John where they refer to Mary annointing the feet of Jesus with Lavender.
