This Mexican holiday welcomes back souls of deceased relatives for a brief reunion. According to tradition, the gates of heaven open at midnight on October 31 and the spirits of children can we join their families for 24 hours. The spirits of adults can do the same on November 2. This 3,000-year-old tradition was originated by the pre-Aztecans and Nahua people. They believed the deceased would enter into another chapter of their lives after dying here on earth. They would enter Chicunamictlán, the Land of the Dead. The Nahua people believed that after nine cycles of life, they would travel to Mictlán, the final resting place.
